An established and highly respected organisation based in Merseyside is seeking an experienced Head of Finance to join the business on a 12-month fixed-term contract. Operating within a highly regulated environment, this role will play a pivotal part in ensuring robust financial control, accurate reporting, and compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements.

The Role
Reporting to the Finance Director, the Head of Finance will lead the financial reporting function, ensuring the delivery of accurate, timely, and insightful financial information to support strategic decision-making.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading the preparation and delivery of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packs.
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal governance frameworks.
- Managing the year-end audit process and acting as the key contact for external auditors.
- Overseeing the production of statutory accounts and supporting corporation tax and VAT reporting requirements.
- Driving continuous improvements across financial controls, reporting processes, and systems.
- Leading the balance sheet review process, ensuring integrity and accuracy across all reconciliations.
- Managing cashflow forecasting and liquidity reporting.
- Providing high-quality financial analysis and commentary for senior leadership and Board-level stakeholders.
- Supporting regulatory reporting submissions and maintaining strong relationships with regulatory bodies where required.
- Developing, mentoring, and leading a high-performing finance team.
- Ensuring robust risk management practices and compliance with internal control frameworks.
- Partnering with operational and executive teams to provide commercial and financial insight.
- Supporting strategic projects, process improvements, and organisational change initiatives throughout the contract period.
About You
We are looking for a qualified finance professional (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with experience operating within a highly regulated environment such as financial services, insurance, housing, utilities, healthcare, public sector, or a similarly regulated industry.
You will possess:
- Fully qualified accountant status (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
- Significant experience in a senior finance leadership position.
- Strong financial and statutory reporting expertise.
- Proven experience managing external audits and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Excellent knowledge of UK accounting standards and financial controls.
- Experience leading and developing finance teams.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at senior and executive level.
- A proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to deliver under tight deadlines.
